Sheck Wes at SOBs
Sheck Wes is one of the latest New York rappers to enter the scene and make a name for himself throughout the city & Soundcloud. The Cactus Jack/ G.O.O.D Music signee is a Harlem native, who, at a young age spent his school breaks & summer in the city, but went to school in Milwaukee living with his mother until high school. Then, Sheck moved to Harlem permanently. He became very involved with the New York fashion scene at a young age, having grown up in the same neighborhood as Kerwin of the Spaghetti Boys and Asspizza (Austin Butts). Before the 19 year old rapper realized he had a talent for making music, he had high basketball aspirations, even missing the opportunity to be in a Yeezy Szn show in order to be eligible to play for his school team. Sheck’s heavy basketball influence shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone familiar with his music, due to his most popular song on Apple Music being named after the #6 overall 2018 NBA Draft pick, Mo Bamba.
On June 30th, Sheck Wes performed to a sold out crowd at SOB’s with fellow G.O.O.D. music signee, Valee. Although Sheck Wes’ discography is limited in size, the energy he brings makes up for it tenfold. Sheck turned the entire crowd into a huge mosh pit for the performance of his songs, “Live Sheck Wes Die Sheck Wes” and “Mo Bamba”. Sheck performed his hit “Mo Bamba” three times throughout his set, each time with increasing intensity, taking after his label head Travis Scott, who once historically performed his hit “Goosebumps” 15 times in a row.
This won’t be the last time you hear Sheck Wes’ name with his highly anticipated debut project “MudBoy” to be released sometime soon. Hopefully, his project features the constantly teased Lil Yachty collab and maybe even a Travis Scott feature. Although Sheck is always on the go with his friends & fellow label mates, here’s to hoping that he is back in New York soon to deliver another truly memorable performance.
