Playboi Carti at the Wellmont Theater
Since his breakout SoundCloud hit “Broke Boi” in 2015 and his “Hide it in my sock” smash, “Magnolia”, Playboi Carti has been a prominent Atlanta rapper to watch. Since his initial blow up in 2015, Carti has been a frequent collaborator of ASAP Mob (through his affiliation with Ian Connor & A$AP Bari) and is a member of their creative department under the secret monogram AWGE. 2018 saw the release of his sophomore project Die Lit and two tours off the release.
Carti came to the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ as a stop on his Neon Tour and delivered a night to remember for everyone in attendance, which is regular for anyone who has been any his shows. Carti reached in his bag of tricks for this performance, opening the show with “RIP Fredo”, a heartfelt banger in dedication to Chicago trap legend, Fredo Santana. Accompanied by large screens around the stage with different neon images, he treated his day one stans by performing “The Omen” and “Fetti” which are some his earliest singles. In true rockstar fashion, Carti was very interactive with the crowd instructing them when to erupt into an unstoppable mosh pit and even jumping in. The energy in the crowd was so persistent he performed his song “Shoota” feat Lil Uzi Vert solo multiple times with the intensity increased after every rerun.
A performance like this is all too regular for Playboi Carti, which is why he was able to sell two separate North American Tours off of one project. With the release of his upcoming project, “WholeLottaRed” approaching, it’s no doubt he will be back on tour soon.
